Katja also uses farm machinery inner tubes which are still in use today.
Inner tubes can be decades old, while retaining their material integrity and remaining incredibly durable.
The bags are crafted by Katja and are hand stitched using traditional upholstery techniques and tools.
The vulcanized rubber is extremely durable and cleans easily with water. Each bag carries marks from its previous life and develops a lustrous patina that improves with age. Each bag takes on its own personal expression depending on the tube selected.
The design objective is to craft the shape of the inner tube in as few alterations as possible, celebrating the geometry and bringing sophistication and surprise to a mass-produced and discarded material.
